Faculty from the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Harvard Medical School had an excellent representation in New Orleans, Louisiana at the 123rd annual meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) earlier this month. The annual gathering of more than 5,000 experts from around the globe provides an opportunity for our surgeons and trainees to present on their latest research findings and learn advances from their peers in the field.

This year, Harvard faculty and trainees contributed more than 100 presentations, with additional poster presentations. They were called on to moderate panels, serve on editorial functions, and be “experts” at lunches.

Notably, David A. Shaye, MD, FACS, received the 2019 Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for Humanism in Medicine for his contributions to the field and Noah Siegel, MD, helped organize the “Otos on the Run” 5K. Additionally, Michael J. McKenna, MD, gave the Fanklin M. Rizer Memorial Lectureship at the American Neurotology Society (ANS) meeting during the AAO-HNS meeting. His talk was titled, "The emerging role for gene therapy in the treatmnent of sensorineural hearing loss."

The annual Harvard alumni function was held on Monday night of the conference at the CellarDoor and brought many alumni together for a wonderful evening reception.
