Harvard Catalyst

Tina Munjal, MD, is originally from Houston, Texas, and completed her undergraduate studies in biochemistry and cell biology at Rice University. She then went on to medical school at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. During this time, she completed an additional year of research at the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. Subsequently, she completed a seven-year clinician-scientist residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Stanford University, funded by a T32 training grant by the National Institutes of Health.

Her research over the years has spanned both basic and translational aspects of auditory science, including the genetic underpinnings of inherited hearing loss, the optimization of music listening for cochlear implant users, electrophysiologic biomarkers for tinnitus and the provision of hearing care for children in low-resource settings.

As a fellow in otology and neurotology, Tina is combining her experiences in electrophysiology with her passion for taking care of cochlear implant patients, studying mechanisms of auditory plasticity after cochlear implantation to provide optimal hearing to as many patients as possible. From a clinical standpoint, she enjoys seeing patients across the lifespan, with a focus on hearing, balance and benign and malignant tumors of the lateral skull base. She will be pursuing a clinician-scientist career following her fellowship, addressing the challenges encountered at the bedside through her translational research.
