Matthew R. Naunheim, MD, MBA
Dr. Matthew Naunheim is a fellowship-trained laryngologist who specializes in treating patients with voice, breathing, and swallowing troubles. He is particularly interested in understanding quality of life interventions in surgery. As a result, he has been involved in implementing a patient-reported outcome measure for subglottic stenosis, a condition treated by laryngologists with significant quality of life decrements without definitive surgical options. He is developing an abbreviated voice-related outcome measure for use in patients with vocal fold polyps and nodules. He has also established tradeoffs between risk of complication, likelihood of surgical success, and postoperative voice quality for laryngo-tracheal surgery. These innovations all have the potential to directly impact the practice of laryngology by elucidating patient preferences.
He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and MBA from Harvard Business School. He subsequently completed his residency training in otolaryngology at Mass. Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School, followed by a fellowship in laryngology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
