After completing his PhD training in the Speech and Hearing Biotechnology program at Harvard University, Dr. Kameron Clayton became a research fellow in the Polley lab within the Eaton-Peabody Laboratories at Mass Eye and Ear before joining the full-time faculty.
Dr. Clayton's research seeks to understand how mysterious perceptual disorders like hyperacusis and tinnitus emerge from compensatory plasticity in neural circuits throughout the auditory central pathway following hearing loss. His research uses two-photon imaging, high-density electrophysiology, optogenetics and behavior to identify the cell types and circuits which underlie auditory perception. Leveraging the tremendous advances by inner ear biologists at Mass Eye and Ear, his research ultimately seeks to describe how new treatments for congenital and noise-induced hearing loss in the cochlea can reinvigorate cortical circuits and perception.
