Dr. Ciersten Burks grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and graduated with high distinction from Indiana University with a degree in biology. There, she was captain of the women’s soccer team and a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Subsequently, she was awarded the Eli Lilly Company Scholarship and received her medical doctorate at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism honor society. 

While at Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Burks was presented with the Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Department Research Fellowship by Dr. Marion Couch, allowing her the opportunity to work under the mentorship of Dr. Wade Clapp and Dr. Charles Yates studying genetically engineered, preclinical murine models of Neurofibromatosis types 1 and 2 with a special interest in vestibular schwannomagenesis.

She is currently interested in translational, health disparities, and outcomes-based research as well as medical education and service to the community.
