Dr. Barbara Fullerton is an Investigator in the Eaton-Peabody Laboratories at Mass. Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School. Throughout her career, her work has centered on research in the auditory system and teaching of head and neck anatomy, as well as serving as an anatomy consultant in the Mass General Department of Radiation Oncology.

Dr. Fullerton’s research on the auditory system has involved both basic neuroanatomical pathways and auditory neurophysiology. Regions studied include the neuroanatomy of the inferior colliculus, organization of the brainstem motoneurons to the stapedius muscle of the middle ear, and the anatomy of the superior olivary auditory neurons in the human brainstem.

In addition to her research efforts, Dr. Fullerton is dedicated to teaching and her radiation oncology work. As an anatomical consultant at Mass General, she is responsible for analysis of normal structure boundaries of treatment patients. The boundaries of normal “critical” structures are defined on computerized head and neck images for patients receiving proton beam radiation treatment.
