December 9, 2022

Harvard Medical School faculty from the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) at Mass Eye and Ear gathered at the Harvard Club on the evening of Friday, December 9, in celebration of Mass Eye and Ear’s inaugural OHNS Faculty Recognition Gala.

The inaugural gala was launched by the Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Education Office at Mass Eye and Ear in collaboration with senior members of the hospital’s departmental Leadership Team. Several awards were bestowed to faculty members, each of whom exemplified a unique, longstanding standard of excellence within the department. Criteria for the awards included exceptional clinical, research and educational contributions to the field of otolaryngology–head and neck surgery, leadership inside and outside Mass Eye and Ear and outstanding community practice.

In a strong show of camaraderie, dozens of faculty spent their evening celebrating the successes of their colleagues and of the entire department in 2021. The event was hosted and led by Mark A. Varvares, MD, FACS, Chief of the Departments of OHNS at Mass Eye and Ear and Massachusetts General Hospital and Chair of the Department of OHNS at Harvard Medical School.

“Every faculty member in our department plays an invaluable role in making Mass Eye and Ear a premier hospital in the nation for otolaryngology care, research and education,” said Dr. Varvares. “They are not only world-class physicians, surgeons, educators and researchers but world-class individuals who I am forever grateful to serve alongside as colleagues.”
