June 11, 2021

Nine Harvard Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) faculty have been invited to help the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) determine its research focus for the next five years.

Julie G. Arenberg, MS, PhD, Jeffrey R. Holt, PhD, Sharon Kujawa, MS, PhD, M. Charles Liberman, PhD, Richard F. Lewis, MD, Sunil Puria, PhD, Steven D. Rauch, MD, Felipe Santos, MD , and Kristina Simonyan, MD, PhD, Dr med were each appointed to join the NIDCD Strategic Plan Committee in helping determine its 2022-2027 Strategic Plan.

The NIDCD is in the final year of its current five-year focus, which is referred to as its 2017-2021 Strategic Plan. According to the NIDCD, the plan helps the institute prioritize its research investments by identifying areas of outstanding promise and areas in need of greater funding due to gaps in knowledge. To create its new strategic plan, the NIDCD invites world-renowned experts to review its current plan, assess public health needs, and submit recommendations on how the NIDCD can improve the quality of life for people with communication disorders.

The Harvard OHNS researchers will join the entire NIDCD Strategic Plan Committee for its virtual Strategic Plan Kickoff Meeting on July 12.
