Dr. Pavan Mallur portraitPavan S. Mallur, MD, a fellowship-trained ear, nose and throat surgeon at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, has been accepted into the Triological Society as an Active Fellow.

Widely considered the most prestigious society in otolaryngology, the Triological Society attracts some of the brightest surgeons and researchers in the field, and membership requires a thesis comprised of an original body of research that has been accepted by a panel of peers.

Dr. Mallur, who subspecializes in laryngology and serves as an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Harvard Medical School, recently submitted his thesis on a study examining the effects of Botox injections on patients with idiopathic chronic cough. The thesis examined quantified outcomes following injections over a period of 10 years. Results from the study indicated a subjective improvement in cough after Botox injections as well as no serious side effects from the treatment.

According to Dr. Mallur, the study is the largest of its kind; almost 200 injections from nearly 50 individuals were recorded

Dr. Mallur’s formal election into the society will occur on May 4, 2023.
