Dr. Natalia Kyriazidis Wins Oral Podium Presentation Award at the World Congress on Thyroid Cancer
Natalia Kyriazidis, MD, an incoming thyroid and parathyroid surgeon at Mass Eye and Ear, finished in first place for the Oral Podium Presentation Award at the 2023 World Congress on Thyroid Cancer in London.
The World Congress on Thyroid Cancer is one of the largest thyroid cancer meetings in the world. More than 1,000 people from 86 countries attended the 2023 meeting, which featured hundreds of oral and poster presentations on thyroid and parathyroid research ranging in scope from general surgery to endocrinology and medical oncology.
Dr. Kyriazidis, who completed her one-year fellowship in thyroid and parathyroid endocrine surgery at Mass Eye and Ear in June, earned the award for research she presented from the first thyroid cancer neoadjuvant clinical trial currently underway at Mass Eye and Ear and Massachusetts General Hospital. The clinical trial, led by Gregory W. Randolph, MD, FACS, FACE, Director of the Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgical Division at Mass Eye and Ear, is testing whether the drug Lenvatinib can shrink advanced thyroid cancers enough for surgeons to remove them in their entirety.
Dr. Randolph, who directs the Thyroid and Parathyroid Endocrine Surgery Fellowship Program at Mass Eye and Ear and served as a mentor to Dr. Kyriazidis, expressed immense pride in seeing his mentee earn the award.
“One of my favorite parts of my role at Mass Eye and Ear is to see our trainees master their craft and share their expertise with the scientific community,” he said. “I can already tell this won’t be the last time she is honored on the international stage.”
