The award was launched by the WIO, a section of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), to celebrate male colleagues who support and empower women otolaryngologists in achieving their professional goals. According to the WIO, the award recognizes a male otolaryngologist who demonstrates a strong commitment to mentoring, collaborating and sponsoring female otolaryngologists.
