Dr. Gregory Randolph inducted into the AAO-HNS Hall of Distinction

Congratulations to Gregory W. Randolph, MD, FACS, FACE, FEBS (Endocrine Surgery), MAMSEClaire and John Bertucci Inaugural Endowed Chair in Thyroid Surgical Oncology and Professor of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) at Harvard Medical School (HMS), who was inducted into the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) Hall of Distinction at their annual meeting on Saturday, September 28th, 2024, in Miami Beach, Florida.

 

The AAO-HNS is the world's largest organization representing otolaryngologist–head and neck surgeons and physicians who specialize in diagnosing and treating disorders of the ears, nose, throat, head and neck with over 13,000 members.

 

At their annual meeting, President Douglas D. Backous, MD, honored the third class of inductees into the Hall of Distinction during a special presentation at the Opening Ceremony. In the Hall of Distinction, Dr. Randolph is recognized as a 'Living Legend,’ a prestigious title awarded to only six otolaryngologists in the nation.

 

Dr. Randolph currently serves as the Director of the Thyroid and Parathyroid Endocrine Surgical Service Division at Mass Eye and Ear. He is an international leader in thyroid and parathyroid surgery, with more than 315 peer-review publications. Dr. Randolph has focused the bulk of his research on recurrent laryngeal nerve anatomy, preservation and electrophysiologic monitoring during thyroid cancer surgery, with a concentration on the importance of laryngeal exams, the recognition of lymph node metastasis, and revision cancer surgery.

 

From 2009-2013, Dr. Randolph served as the AAO-HNSF Coordinator for International Affairs and from 2016-2017 he served as President of AAO-HNSF. He was the first otolaryngologist to become a member of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and to be board-certified in endocrine surgery in the European Union. Additionally, he recently served as the Chair of the Administration Division of the American Head and Neck Society and has served on the Board of Directors, Surgical Liaison for the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, and on the Executive Committee and Treasurer of the American Thyroid Association. He currently serves as President of the International Thyroid Oncology Group a renowned group of surgeons, endocrinologists, medical oncologists and researchers focusing on clinical trials in advanced thyroid cancer.
