Dr. Alan Workman Receives Eleanor Miles Shore Development Award
Congratulations to Alan Workman, MD, MTR, Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Harvard Medical School, who received the 2026 Mass Eye and Ear Fellowship Award through the annual Eleanor and Miles Shore Development Awards Program.
The award is part of the 31st annual Eleanor and Miles Shore Development Awards Program, which supports the academic success of junior faculty who are balancing early careers with significant responsibilities. Awards are funded by Harvard, affiliate institutions and private donors, and may be used by a junior faculty member to protect time from clinical, teaching, or other responsibilities while pursuing academic work.
Dr. Workman, fellowship-trained sinus surgeon and investigator at Mass Eye and Ear, will be using the $30,000 grant accompanied by the Mass Eye and Ear Fellowship Award to further his research efforts.
This research project will define and target two novel inflammatory pathways in chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps, for which limited disease-modifying therapies exist. Benjamin Bleier, MD, FACS, is serving as senior faculty mentor, while Hoang Nguyen MD PhD, a rising chief resident at Mass Eye and Ear, is a mentee and collaborator on this project. The award stipend will support direct laboratory costs to build upon preliminary transcriptomic and proteomic findings.
