MGB OHNS Faculty Recognition Gala

Harvard Medical School faculty from the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) at Mass General Brigham gathered at the Harvard Club on the evening of Friday, January 9, in celebration of its third OHNS Faculty Recognition Gala.

This event is organized by the OHNS Education Office at Mass Eye and Ear, in collaboration with senior members of the hospital’s departmental leadership team. Eight awards were presented to faculty members who demonstrate exceptional contributions to clinical care, research, and education in OHNS.

In the months leading up to the event, colleagues cast votes for one another, and those with the most votes were honored. Awards were presented by faculty who had served as mentors or mentees of the recipients, each sharing personal and memorable anecdotes celebrating the honorees.

Nearly 80 faculty members came together to celebrate their colleagues’ achievements. The Chair of the Department of OHNS at Mass General Brigham, Mark A. Varvares, MD, FACS, envisioned this sense of camaraderie when he launched the inaugural Faculty Recognition Gala in 2022, a tradition that will continue in the newly integrated Department of OHNS at Mass General Brigham.

“I am continually inspired by the dedication, collegiality and excellence of our faculty. Every member contributes to the success of our newly integrated department, and it is vital that we recognize and support one another along the way. Together, by uplifting and celebrating each other with awards named after the giants who came before us—whose shoulders we stand on—we link our storied past with our future and create a truly exceptional environment for care, research, and education,” said Dr. Varvares.
