Update in Head and Neck Cancer: 2020 will provide practitioners who care for patients with malignant diseases of the head and neck region with a comprehensive overview of the current standard of care practices for management of disorders of this region as well as an introduction and review of evolving and innovative treatment approaches. Management recommendations are rapidly evolving in this era of increasing HPV-related disease and will receive particular attention, including a discussion of de-escalation and the current randomized trials evaluating de-escalation protocols.

Distinguished faculty from within the Harvard Medical School system as well as from prominent programs nationally will present a series of didactic lectures and participate in open panels which cover the management of malignancies in critical sub-sites within the head and neck such as the oral cavity, oropharynx, larynx, salivary gland, and others. They will also discuss cutaneous cancers, endocrine malignancies and skull-based cancers. Pertinent reconstructive and rehabilitative issues will similarly be addressed during specific sessions. Specific sessions will focus on the critical aspects of multidisciplinary management of HPV-related head and neck cancer as it is currently evolving with presentations by national leaders from the specialties of otolaryngology – head and neck surgery, medical oncology and radiation oncology.

These sessions will be highlighted by the Daniel Miller, MD Distinguished Lectureship in Head and Neck Cancer and the William Wayne Montgomery, MD Lectureship in Surgical Innovation and Excellence. Specific attention will focus on the evolving role of immunotherapy in the management of head and neck cancer. Open interaction between faculty and participants will be encouraged throughout the course with particular emphasis during the scheduled “Tumor Board” sessions and Q&A periods. Participants will be encouraged to pre-submit cases for the Tumor board sessions to have these cases serve as a springboard for discussion.
