Dr. Leila Mankarious is a fellowship-trained pediatric otolaryngologist at Mass Eye and Ear who has a special interest in caring for children with ear, nose, and throat disorders, especially ear conditions. Her clinical and research interests are centered around children with ear problems such as tumors (cholesteatoma), infections and fluid, drum perforations, retractions, sensorineural hearing loss, and pediatric cochlear implantation. She is also interested in early correction of external ear deformities such as “prominent” or “folded” ear.

As the head of Databases and Registries for all the Harvard Otolaryngology departments, she is actively working with other researchers to create an international registry for patients with hearing loss both in terms of improving care for these patients as well as keeping track of patients based on a granular etiology for their hearing loss.

She earned her medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine prior to completing her general surgery internship and residency training in otolaryngology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She then completed her fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at University of Iowa and the Hospital for Sick Children in London, England.
