Dr. Alyssa Suining Chen grew up in Novi, Michigan and studied biomedical engineering at Yale University. There, she conducted research on the genetic basis and treatment of hereditary endocrine disorders and developed a novel medical device as a part of a senior project. Prior to medical school, she worked as a data scientist at a biotech start-up responsible for creating datasets and algorithms for predicting novel disease treatments.

Dr. Chen received her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and awarded the Charles and Phyllis Lowe Merit Scholarship. At the University of Michigan, she worked on a clinical trial for a new cartilage conduction hearing device and designed a 3D-printed patient education simulator for a novel nasopharyngeal airway device. She also co-led the design of an automatic supplemental oxygen titration device, which is currently the basis of a new start-up company.

Dr. Chen’s research interests include surgical innovation, medical device development and outcomes-based research.
