Nicole T. Jiam, MD, a second-year neurotology and skull base surgery fellow at Mass Eye and Ear, was recently awarded the 2023 [Doris Duke Physician Scientist Fellowship Award](https://www.dorisduke.org/funding-areas/medical-esearch/physician-scientist-fellowship/). The Doris Duke Foundation selects physician-scientists at the subspecialty fellowship level that show exceptional promise as a clinician-investigator. The award consists of $220,000 over two years and funds projects that address significant research questions. In addition to financial support, the Doris Duke Physician Scientist Fellowship fosters career advancement and aids the recipient’s transition into a physician-scientist faculty appointment.

Support from the fellowship will help fund Dr. Jiam’s project on age-specific cochlear implant programming for optimal hearing performance. She will begin her faculty position in the Division of Otology, Neurotology & Skull Base Surgery at the University of California–San Francisco (UCSF) in July 2024.
