[Natalia Kyriazidis, MD,](https://doctors.masseyeandear.org/details/562) a fellowship-trained head and neck endocrine surgeon and otolaryngologist at Mass Eye and Ear, has been named the recipient of the 2024 Norman Knight Leadership Development Award. The award was endowed by the late Norman Knight, a self-made broadcast pioneer and media mogul who was a passionate champion of Mass Eye and Ear for more than 25 years. Recipients are selected for their exceptional promise as future leaders within their specialty in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at Mass Eye and Ear. Thanks to Mr. Knight’s generosity, the award provides junior faculty members with funding to help them establish a career in academic medicine during the early years of their practice. Awardees may use the funds for research, equipment or for any other approved career development purposes.

Dr. Kyriazidis, an Instructor in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Harvard Medical School, is an expert in benign and malignant diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid glands. She earned her medical degree from UMass Chan Medical School before pursuing a residency in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Following her residency, she completed fellowship training in advanced endocrine head and neck surgery at Mass Eye and Ear, training directly under [Gregory W. Randolph, MD, FACS, FACE,](https://doctors.masseyeandear.org/details/166) Professor of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Thyroid and Parathyroid Endocrine Surgical Division at Mass Eye and Ear. Now, Dr. Kyriazidis offers comprehensive otolaryngology care at Mass Eye and Ear’s Quincy and Bridgewater locations.

Her current research focuses on thyroid cancer care and immunoglobulin related thyroiditis, particularly investigating the underlying causes associated with thyroiditis as well as improving diagnostic and treatment strategies for thyroid cancer. The Norman Knight Leadership Development Award was accompanied by a grant that will be instrumental in supporting funding for advanced diagnostic tools and facilitating collaboration with staff.

[Mark A. Varvares, MD, FACS](https://doctors.masseyeandear.org/details/49), John W. Merriam/William W. Montgomery Professor and Chair of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Chair of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Mass Eye and Ear and Massachusetts General Hospital, presented this year’s award to Dr. Kyriazidis at the June 4 Spring Meeting of the Trustees and Medical Staff at Mass Eye and Ear.

“Dr. Kyriazidis is a perfect example of bringing renowned endocrine surgical care to our suburban areas, helping reach a greater population of patients,” said Dr. Varvares. “She is immensely driven in both her surgical and academic work, and I look forward to watching her career grow as an emerging leader in the field.”
