#  Dr. Bui-Nguyen receives third CORE Award

[Hoang Bui-Nguyen, MD, PhD,](https://oto.hms.harvard.edu/people/hoang-bui-nguyen-md-phd) a PGY-5 resident in the Harvard Combined Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Residency Program, was recently awarded a Centralized Otolaryngology Research Effort (CORE) grant by the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation and the American Rhinologic Society. This marks Dr. Bui-Nguyen’s third CORE grant.

‌His current project focuses on endotyping chronic rhinosinusitis using novel orphan non-coding RNA signatures.

Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a highly heterogeneous inflammatory disease, yet current clinical classification relies largely on the presence or absence of nasal polyps and does not fully capture the molecular diversity that may drive treatment response and prognosis. By characterizing oncRNA signatures in sinonasal tissue and plasma, this work aims to develop a minimally invasive molecular framework for CRS endotyping.

‌The project is also designed to provide proof of concept for a minimally invasive blood test that could help stratify which CRS patients may be more likely to benefit from surgery versus biologic therapy. Ultimately, this work aims to expand into a multi-institutional study as Dr. Bui-Nguyen continues to pursue a career in rhinology following fellowship next year.
